Army Boot Camp’s finest instructors will be taking part in a march from Tower Bridge to Battersea Bridge and back, the distance should roughly be 20 miles!!! The instructors will be carrying 60lbs and wearing boots. The route will encompass all of London’s famous bridges.
The date will be Wednesday the 9th of May 2012 with an early start.
The march is in honour of Private Thomas Lake of the 1st Battalion Princess of Wales Royal Regiment who died in Afghanistan on Sunday 20th of November 2011. Tom was blown up by an IED.
One of the boot camps instructors Biker Jim was very good friends with Tom and recently attended his funeral, so for Boot Camp it’s a very real and close to home tragedy.
From the stuff that I have read about Tom from the M.O.D., it’s clear he was an awesome soldier. He achieved more in his few years in the Army than most do in a lifetime. Most of all though, it’s clear, like all the soldiers who have given their lives in Afghanistan and other conflicts, he loved his job, and he was proud to be a soldier.
The saddest point for me is always the people that our awesome soldiers leave behind. As British soldiers they know what they are doing when they go to war and they do so with professionalism and the highest skill and bravery known to man. It’s with great sadness that Tom leaves behind his loving mum who cannot describe in words how much she will miss him.
All boot Campers past and present are welcome to join us on the march you can carry the full weight, carry no weight or some weight.
Most of all your support is what we need. The march will be for the Help for Heroes charity and all funds raised will be given to the charity by Tom’s mum.
Any money you can donate will be mega.
On the day if you can help collect money along the route and provide Young Jim with some water and fluids as he will need it more than most that would be amazing.
